Beyond

Leveling the Playing Field. I believe that each of us can make a change and therefore advocate for equality, diversity and justice within and outside of academia. As such, I have been involved in numerous campaigns and projects to advocate for marginalized and minority groups in Turkey, Germany, and Canada.

BIPOC Caucus, Department of Political Science, University of Toronto

I am the co-founder of the student-led BIPOC Caucus in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto which was formed in the Summer of 2020. The BIPOC student caucus is a recent addition to the Department of Political and offers a place for self-identifying BIPOC students to exchange their experiences beyond the existing white-dominated structures at the University. The need for a platform where BIPOC students could come together to recognize their unique position and build trust and solidarity among each other emerged in light of the climate survey carried out in the department and, most importantly, the global protest movement #BlackLivesMatter. Since its foundation, the BIPOC Caucus has organized numerous professionalization and mental health events to support graduate student development and well-being through tailored initiatives.

The work of the BIPOC Caucus was recently featured in the Newsletter published by the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto.
